DiscoverScholars.org News

It’s been a little while since we’ve given an update on the progress of DiscoverScholars.org, so we wanted to share what’s been going on and what’s on our plate in the coming weeks.

As of last Monday, DiscoverScholars.org has officially filed IRS Form 1023 — the application for 501(c)(3) status!  That means that (once we receive official word from the IRS), all donations will be considered tax-exempt retroactive to Monday, June 22nd. From now on, anyone who donates to DiscoverScholars.org via PayPal or Google Checkout will receive a tax-deduction for their contributions!  You can help us defer some of our start-up costs by donating via PayPal or Google Checkout today.

With all of our legal work at long last out of the way, we’re now turning our attention towards finalizing the DiscoverScholars.org website.  We’ve finished drafting our student scholarship application, are working on integrating it into the site.  We anticipate being able to start accepting applications within just two weeks (by July 15th)!

We also have begun creating our official donation page, which will provide donors with the ability to select the characteristics of students whom they wish to see funded.  Our current goal is to unveil the donation page by July 31st.

Once the application and new donation page are complete, our efforts will be focused squarely on promoting DiscoverScholars.org to students and donors.  Our success will depend on spreading the word as virally as possible.  We’re getting really excited for that phase to begin, but you can help us now by getting as many people as you can to join our Facebook group, sign up for email updates, or just by sharing our website.

We hope you’re getting as excited as we are, because there’s so much more to come!
